Gym
Stars Gymnastics programs are designed for a wide range
of students with an emphasis on individual goals and needs. Our
programs build confidence and self-esteem for children and provide
an environment conducive for the development of the children.
Most of the children who attend Gym Stars, experience instructors
who have a caring attitude with a genuine love for children. Our
recreational classes have an 8-1 max instructor to student ratio.
"Gym
Stars Team Gymnastics"
Gym Stars
team gymnastics puts an emphasis on the individual goals of the
gymnasts. While Gym Stars is currently not the biggest gymnastics
club in the state, many individuals have accomplished state and
regional championships. Just this year, former Gym Star, Sarah
Bulka, who now competes for Brockport, was 3rd all-around at College
nationals.
OUR EQUIPMENT
Gym Stars is a state of the art facility with the finest equipment.
We have a 20'x 20' loose foam pit, a tumble track that is recessed
into the floor, and a floor system that is made of the finest
materials on the market. The top of the floor has a full 2"
covering of Resilite foam which provides maximum protection to
wrists and ankles. There are two layers of 5x5 sheets of Baltic
birch plywood imported from Russia with a Speith Anderson spring
system, AAI Elite BARS, AAI and Speith Anderson beams. Also, Gym
Stars has the new vault table required by USAGymnastics.

Gym Stars takes 2nd place
at level 5 State Championships
New York state gymnastics held the largest level 5 state championships ever, combining up state and down state for the first time. Teams from all over New York State converge at Yorktown Heights for the USAG state championships, June 2, 3, 4th.
Gym Stars girls competed on June 3rd and 4th, starting with Rebecca Longendyke from Kingston, Angie Fix and Elizabeth (Libby) Barden from Hudson. On the two solid performances from Libby and Angie pushed the team forward with Libby hitting two scores on 9.0 on vault and floor and an 8.95 on uneven bars. This was Libby’s third meet ever competing and Angie Fix contributed with an 8.8 on beam, but it was Rebecca Longendykes 37.15 fourth place all around that pushed the team first place at the end of the first day. Rebecca had a 9.2 on vault, 9.3 on bars, 9.1 on the balance beam, and a 9.5 on floor, and a 37.15 all around in the 9 year old rookie division.
On Sunday morning in the 11 year old veteran division Marcella Ferraro from Catskill hit a 36.725 2nd place all around to push the team up by a full point, going into the last session. Marcella’s scores were a 9.15 on vault 2nd place, 9.3 on uneven bars taking 2nd place, 9.125 on balance beam 3rd place, 9.15 on floor taking 3rd place. This pushed Gym Stars up by almost a point.
Last up was KellyRose Yaeger from Saugerties on Sunday afternoon with Gym Stars almost one point up she was against the scores of two gymnasts from a strong Exper-Tiess team from Long Island. KellyRose hit her best scores of the year with an 8.85 on bars, 9.275 on beam taking 2nd place, 9.50 on floor taking 3rd place, and a 8.90 on vault, ending with a 36.525 all around but, it would not be enough to stay ahead of the two girls from Long Island also hitting big scores who just edged us out on the last event of a very exciting state championship. Gym Stars was up against 24 of New York’s finest teams and finished Second Place in the state small team division.

LEVEL 7 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS
This was a challenging competition. The officials did a great job by keeping this competition on time (actually ahead of schedule) and judged accurately. The Coaches did a great job in working together. There was a time when 24-26 clubs were represented out on the competition floor. Our hosts were gracious as always and June & Steve's Staff, Parents & Gymnasts once again rose to the challenge. Great job by all!
After taking a quick look at the scores and comparing "Rookies" to "Veterans" it seems the terminology may not fit. We have a number of options for next season: 1. maintain the rookie/veteran breakdown. 2. come up with a score from a sectional/invitational competition as a dividing line; example: gymnasts with a 34.50 are one division; anything less is another. Another recommendation was to be age specific for our 7-8-9 year olds and then go whatever for the other ages. We did use the specific ages for 10-11-12-13 & 14 year olds which helped balance session out and give more athletes the opportunity for being rewarded.
Gymnastics is a challenging sport. Gymnasts learn and develop at different rates. With the outstanding job of the Coaches, the Gymnasts and the officials in giving the score they deserve we need to cultivate the entire group of State Championship Qualifiers. Not everyone will score 9.0 and above (we had a 9.9) but this does not mean they are any less of a gymnast. There is nothing wrong with scores lower than 9.0! I remind everyone we have 10000 competitors in Level 4; 90 at Level 10. These athletes are being challenged like no other group of gymnasts ever have. The sport has put more demands on them, their schools have put more demands on them and they have put demands on themselves as they balance out their young lives and schedules. Gymnastics is not school. You do not graduate each year. You set goals and work towards those goals. A long term development plan needs to be in place, a plan that can be altered at any time.
Gymnastics gives so much to its athletes. These athletes are special, their Gymnasts; involved in the most challenging of women's Olympic summer sports. They are a head above 99% of athletes their age and could succeed in any sport they wish to participate in........... in my eyes they are Champions and our future leaders. Gymnastics is a great sport!
